Families of Mat-Su Central,

Thank you for helping make MCS the Frontiersman Best Homeschool In the Valley again in 2024 (click here for a photo of Kinder-Kickstart teacher, Ms. Angie, who attended the celebration event in a spectacular costume). As always, check out our full calendar here, and keep an eye on the website for the most up to date information (like the HS Neon Dance happening this Friday)!. In the meantime, here are some important highlights.

Semester 2 Offerings

  • Although some MCS are year-long, there are many new course offerings this spring that are now available on the website, including Hunter Safety, Kindergarten Club, Cinema as Art, Mystery Science, and our first Ice Fishing Club. We also have an abundance of Music and Art options available. If there is a course you are interested in attending, but it is marked as FULL, feel free to reach out to your advisor or the teacher directly. MCS is always in the business of making exceptions.

Grades & Receipts Deadlines:

  • If you would like to be reimbursed for a purchase before Christmas, make sure to submit your receipt before the December 2 deadline. You can help streamline the process by making sure you follow the steps outlined in this video and reviewing the FAQs for allotment. You can enroll in direct deposit by completing the relevant form and returning it to MCS. As always, reach out to your advisor with specific questions.
  • Grades are due December 19, but the portal will be open for parent submission beginning December 1. If you prefer to submit grades outside of this timeframe, you can always submit directly to your advisor.

Vendor Highlights: At over 300 community instructional partners (full list here), it can be hard to keep up with the best fit for your family. Talk to your advisor and other homeschool families to learn more, but here are a few options we are featuring this month:

  • Mat-Su Shooters is a shotgun club for all experience levels that meets in Wasilla.
  • Be Outdoors Alaska creates opportunities for outdoor recreation through education and practice.
  • Frontline Mission is a great community partner offering free Thanksgiving dinner for anyone who would like to join.

Optional Participation:

  • Climate & Connectedness Survey: The MSBSD recently sent a survey to parents and guardians regarding school safety. Students now have the opportunity to participate in a survey of their own. By doing so, they will have the opportunity to earn a free coffee from MCS. Warning: the section for students in grades 6-12 contains potentially sensitive questions about drugs, abuse, and mental health, which you may want to consider before having your child participate. Find the survey here.

Feedback: Check out some of the latest pictures of the new building as progress continues. MCS thrives thanks to the creative insights from home educators. If you have any ideas for how we can improve our program, please share with us here

Honored to partner with you,
