December 4, 2024
Families of Mat-Su Central,
The holidays are here, and we are excited to wrap up the first semester of this school year. Friendly reminder that our building will be closed from December 23 - Jan 3. Most S2 on-site classes will begin January 7, but check with specific teachers to confirm start dates. As always, check out our full calendar here, and keep an eye on the website for the most up to date information. In the meantime, here are some important highlights.
Grading Portal Open
- S1 grades are due December 19, but the portal is open now for parent submissions. Watch this video for insight on what/how to turn in grades for your student. Some of you may prefer to meet in person with your advisor, which is always an option as well. Keep in mind that this is a new program initiated by the MSBSD, so Mat-Su Central does not have the ability to address technical issues. If you run into any problems with grade submission, please contact the District Help line (761-4357) and press 1 for IT.
- Tips and Tricks:some text
- Works best on a computer using Chrome.
- Have your work samples saved in a folder for easy access.
- If you are using your phone, turning it sideways will give you the best view.
- Don't give a grade for a class that is taught on-site by another teacher (ex: Informal Geometry with Mr. Rucker or Music with Mrs. Schwartz, etc.).
Receipts Deadlines:
- The December 2 (optional) deadline has passed, so new reimbursement requests will now be processed after Christmas. Remember that all receipts dated July 1 through December 31 must be submitted by January 25. You can help streamline the process by making sure you follow the steps outlined in this video and reviewing the FAQs for allotment. You can enroll in direct deposit by completing the relevant form and returning it to MCS. As always, reach out to your advisor with specific questions.
MAP Winter Testing Available:
- If your student is planning to participate in MAP testing this winter, now is the time to sign up at this link! Connect with your advisor if you are unsure of whether you should do so.
Book Fair:
- Join us for our Winter Book Fair December 9-13 from 9:30-3:30 (regular library hours). Families may use allotment funds to purchase materials. Check out the full list of books here and find something special for Christmas!
New Building Update:
- Our new building continues to progress well, with construction wrapping up in early January. At that point, it will take some time to organize furniture, fixtures, and internal equipment. We are hopeful that we will be making a full shift to the new building in March/April, but we will keep you updated as we gain clarity on the exact timeline.
Vendor Highlights: At over 300 community instructional partners (full list here), it can be hard to keep up with the best fit for your family. Talk to your advisor and other homeschool families to learn more, but here are a few options we are featuring this month:
- Mat-Su College is open for tours and FAFSA help for your HS student!
- Mat-Su Learn and Inspire has spring small group class openings for PK-8 students in science and writing.
- Grizzly Family Fitness has new opportunities for your kiddo to participate in soccer, basketball, and much more.
- Bentah STEAM Academy offers a wide range of FREE classes for homeschool students.
Feedback: MCS thrives thanks to the creative insights from home educators. If you have any ideas for how we can improve our program, please share with us here.
Honored to partner with you,
Stacey McIntosh and Nathan Chud
