Class Description
Trade your screen for the trails! In this year-round adventure, we’ll dive into the woods of Palmer to discover how Alaska’s wild places change from the first "termination dust" to the big spring thaw. This course is all about getting hands-on with nature while building the skills you need to be a confident Alaskan explorer.
What we’ll do:
- The Art of the Trek: Master how to move through the woods like a pro—whether you’re squelching through summer mud or trekking over crunchy winter crust.
- Eco-Detectives: Become a forest expert through sensory observation! We’ll use sight, sound, and touch to identify local plants and track animals as they adapt to the extreme seasons.
- Alaskan Survival Skills: Learn the basics of staying safe and dry in the North. We’ll practice shelter-building, explore how water transforms into ice, and practice essential winter safety.
- Adventure & Games: Stay "stoked" in any weather with forest-based games like Camouflage and sub-zero broomball. You’ll learn how to pick the right gear to stay warm and happy while playing outside 365 days a year.
The Goal: This isn’t just a walk in the woods—it’s about becoming part of the landscape. By the end of the year, you’ll have the confidence to lead your own family adventures and a deep respect for the wild land we call home.
