MCS News

Families of Mat-Su Central,

We have entered the wild rush of what is affectionately referred to as “Marchaprilmay.” With our shift to the new school building taking place, this spring will be a busy one. As always, check out our full calendar here, and keep an eye on the website for the most up to date information (like school closure for spring break March 7 to 17 and key updates about graduation).

Mat-Su Central Parent Survey

  • There have been some lively discussions about Mat-Su Central at recent board meetings as the school board recently approved a new Hybrid Learning Academy that seeks to enhance and expand the on-site learning opportunities for MCS families (check out MSBSD’s list of FAQs regarding the hybrid school here). In an effort to meaningfully collect MCS family feedback, we are asking that you complete this survey to help us advocate for the school community you want.

New Principal for Mat-Su Hybrid Learning Academy Announced

Jason Moore has been selected to lead the new Mat-Su Hybrid Learning Academy. His past experiences include K-12 experience as Principal and Assistant Principal around the District, most recently at Snowshoe Elementary. We are excited for what he will bring to the new program and the collaborative energy he has already shown for making this new school a success. Please help us welcome him to his new position!

AAC Election Results:

Thank you to all the candidates for your willingness to partner with the mission of Mat-Su Central. This joint effort between MCS staff, parents, and students is at the heart of what makes this school community so special. This year’s AAC election broke records with both candidate and voting participation, which is a good sign for how invested people are! After a very close race, congratulations to both our new and returning members:

  • Nicole Connolly
  • Siyen Emmert
  • Shauna Kron

Important Dates for New Building Move-In:

  • Over spring break, we will begin relocating to our new school building at 2055 N. Stringfield Dr. in Palmer…  It's a dream come true! As we change phone numbers and other contact info, watch the website for updates and contact the front office if you’re having trouble reaching your advisor. Here are some important dates you can keep in mind as we plan for a transition:
    • Mar 17-21: Buildings closed for move-in
    • Mar 24-28: New Building open to appointments (no on-site classes)
    • Mar 31: On-site classes begin in new building
    • Mar 31 - Apr 3: MCS families (and friends) new building tours at 9a and 1p daily (sign up here)
    • May 9: Open House/Picnic

Library Overdue Notices:

Starting after spring break, you may notice library bills/fees appearing in your weekly fee reminder in ParentVUE. This is part of a new integration between the library system and SchoolPay. These bills/fees are for books or other library items that your student checked out and have been overdue for more than 90 days. The notification will include the item details and the school library where it was checked out. If you receive a notice, you have a few options:

  • Return the item to any school library, and the fee will be removed. Please note: you may receive bills for items checked out from other MSBSD schools attended, and it is important that you return those items ASAP.
  • If the item is lost/damaged, you can pay the fee through the ParentVUE Fees section using a personal credit card.
  • If the item is lost/damaged, you can pay the fee using your student allotment by contacting the school librarian.
  • Due to the unique nature of Mat-Su Central’s checkout system, you may need to ignore some of these messages. If you have questions or concerns, please reach out to your school librarian or administrator for assistance.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we transition to this new system. Thank you!

Vendor Highlights: At over 300 community instructional partners (full list here), it can be hard to keep up with the best fit for your family. Talk to your advisor and other homeschool families to learn more, but here are a few options we are featuring this month:

Special shoutouts for MCS students:

  • Battle of the Books HS State Champions & Middle School Runner Ups
  • Spelling Bee Winner: 8th grader Elijah White - Top 75 in the State
