MCS Science Fair

March 22, 2027

Event Description

Calling All Young Scientists!

WHO:

Open to all MCS students in grades K–7!  Families will help support students as they complete their projects at home.

WHAT:

The MCS Science Fair Club is a fun opportunity for students to explore a topic they are curious about through hands-on science investigation and creativity.  Students will work through the scientific method to ask questions, test ideas, solve problems, and share discoveries. Participants will complete a science fair project, including a presentation board, and present their work to judges and the MCS community.

AWARDS:

Our kind and welcoming judges will score each student's science fair project based on skills such as creativity, originality, oral presentation skills, application of the scientific method, and student depth of knowledge.  Awards will be based on students' cumulative scores.

Each student will receive a Science Fair completion certificate after their project interview!  Additional awards will include:

  • Participation ribbons for all.

  • Large 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place ribbons as well as additional prizes for each of the following grade brackets:
    • K-2
    • 3-5
    • 6-7

  • Honorable mention awards to include:

  • Scientific Method Excellence Award
  • Creativity and Innovation Award
  • Outstanding Oral Presentation Award
  • Real-World Application Award

  • And finally … the MCS community will vote for the esteemed People's Choice award, which will be announced on the last day of the Science Fair - March 26th!

WHERE:

Most of the project work will be completed at home at your family’s own pace. Students will present their science fair boards to judges in March, followed by a week of the projects being on display at the school.

WHEN:

  • January – March: Students work on their projects / display boards at home
  • Week of March 15: Students present their projects to the judges during pre-scheduled interview times.
  • Week of March 22:  Prizes and ribbons will be awarded and the Science Fair projects will be on display around the school!
  • March 26:  The People's Choice science fair project winner will be announced!
  • Please note:  There are no required class meeting times, making this an easy and flexible enrichment opportunity for busy families.

WHY:

Participation in the Science Fair helps students build confidence, creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills in a fun and meaningful way. It’s a chance for students to take ownership of their learning, dive deeper into their interests, practice oral presentation, and celebrate their hard work with others.

Once enrolled in the Science Fair Club, families will receive:

  • Helpful resources and step-by-step guidance
  • Timeline reminders to stay on track
  • The opportunity for your child to present their project to judges and participate in the fair!
