Class Description

Introduction to Animal Science is a survey of the knowledge and skills necessary for animal care including traditional species (such as horses) and non-traditional species (such as llamas). Students who want to become veterinarians, vet technicians, animal trainers, or interested in farm production would benefit from this class. While the horse is our main muse, students will have access to mules, cattle, cats, dogs, sheep, pigs, and fowl (chicken and ducks). Domestication, evolutionary concepts, disease prevention, cold weather care and management, animal husbandry, and animal anatomy and physiology will be studied. Guest speakers may include farriers, veterinarians, and law enforcement (animal control, AK Equine Rescue).
