Class Description

Students will explore how movies, TV shows, and film are a mirror for societies fears and obsessions.  Students will analyze film as a modern medium of storytelling, character development, and learn cinematography to understand the ways directors guide not just the actors and action, but most importantly the audience.  Learn about why and how directors use angles, framing, lighting, sounds, editing, and camera movement to make you feel anxious, tense, calm, or any emotion in between!  Explore how every movie is a persuasive essay; the writer/director is trying to convince you what life is like, was like, or should be like.  Learn to spot the themes and messaging to decide for yourself.

Meets at Mat-Su Central on Fridays from 10am -3pm October 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd, and 30th.  November 6th will meet at The Valley Cinema.

Movie times vary, so be prepared to come earlier or later the last Friday as showtimes permit.  Information will be posted on our online Canvas class section.  Each film will require a written analysis and will be followed by group discussion.

**This course meets on the same schedule at Cinema as Art but includes additional content/assignments.
