We teach traditional Martial Arts to children age 5-18 with an emphasis on Karate knowledge and physical fitness.

Gymnastics is a sport that includes physical exercises requiring balance, strength, flexibility, agility, coordination, artistry and endurance. Our gymnasts start as early as 18 months to 18 years old. Recreational classes learn all the basic skills within the sport and dedicated athletes move on to competitive levels competing both in state and out of state competitions. We use aviation to excite students about math, science, geography, history and much more! Our courses are all online and at the student's own time and pace. Students will go through 10 aviation modules over the course of the year. By the end of the course they will understand the aerodynamics of flight, aviation weather, navigation, airplane instruments, as well as be proficient at flight in using the provided simulator. In addition to the multiple aviation disciplines they will enjoy over 30 aviation career pathways interviews filmed in a variety of locations from gold mines to NASA. Traditional Japanese Karate-Do Shito-Ryu. Non-competitive program with a focus on basic skills, self defense, manners, respect and self discipline. Ages 5 to 18.

Creative Writing: Creative Writing 101 introduces students to the elements of a story, including genre, premise, plot, character, conflict, grammar, and voice. Over the course of the class, students will write a story in 1500 words or less for entry in a nation writing contest.

Track & Field / X-Country Running: Provides coaching and cross country meet accompaniment to Mat-Su Valley Kids.

German Language: German language lessons in speaking, listening, reading, and writing for middle school, high school, and adults meet once weekly in a fall and spring workshop at the Irish Dance Studio in the Mayflower Building off Palmer Wasilla Highway. Optional class trips to Salzburg, Austria for a week-long language immersion every 3 years.


Space Science: A space science overview workshop that introduces various aspects of human spaceflight. Similar to NASA"s Astronaut Candidate training, it includes topics such as space environment, phases of orbital spaceflight, rockets, living in space, effects of spaceflight on the human body and more. Students complete a mix of discussion, activities, worksheets and homework, crew notebook and more.

Making Comics I & II - Learn the art of making comics. Students will learn to draw with clarity, design expressive characters, and integrate words in a visual format to build worlds and stories while exploring tools and techniques of comics past and present. Grades 6 - 12. Language Arts Through Comics - Develop reading comprehension, spelling, vocabulary, grammer, sentence structure, and other aspects of the English language through exploring the world of comics. Grades K - 12.

Alaska Horse Ranch offers riding lessons for children and adults, ages 8 on up for beginners, intermediate, and advanced students in Western, dressage, jumping, and endurance. The Alaska Rock Gym is an indoor climbing facility. Wall height is 30 feet. The gym offers over 6000 square feet of textured climbing surface, a large boulder area and weight room. Classes are offered for kids, teens and adults in a variety of formats.

The mission of Scholastic Archery Association (S3DA) program is to foster, educate and guide youth in the areas of 3D, indoor and outdoor target archery as well as safe, ethical bowhunting practices. The S3DA program usually runs with the school year with some summer activities. We will have practices every Monday for 2 hours. Practice will include training archery skills to new and advanced archers. We host as a state an indoor 5 Spot Tournament, 3D Tournament and Outdoor Target. There are National Tournaments the students may travel to as well. There are amazing college scholarship opportunities for the students.

Our mission is to create opportunites for outdoor recreation through education and practice. The basis for all curriculum is in preparedness for outdoor activities with proper and well functioning gear, and instilling the ability to read the conditions of the outdoors setting. Students will take away a greater level of confidence in pursuing outdoor activities from this class because of the emphasis on practice of the skills and awareness of the surroundings. We teach STEM classes with Lego and other bricks- and we make them move! Motorized builds including basic motors, remote control, early coding and robotics are the core classes i our curriculum. Classes are suited for a variety of ages, typically starting at 1st grade. Look for our Build at Home Kit 2 on our website. It is a great option for brand new brick builders who need more assistance or time to develop their skills before joining us in class.

I provide private figure skating instruction for recreational and competitive figure skaters. Students will be given the opportunity to test through the ISI levels, learn routines to music, perform at ice shows, and compete at local competitions. Off-ice lessons are also available to help build strength and balance, improve coordination, and increase flexibility. Ice skating encourages young students to learn how to set goals and achieve them, helps with focus, and can improve mental and physical strength. I also provide skating instruction to hockey players at all levels; focusing on edge control and how to maximize power. My goal in coaching is to encourage a love for the sport of skating, figure or hockey!

This will be a course for outdoors and fishing. We will go over outdoor safety, ice safety and fishing. How to pick and target species and what they like. We will learn about basic fishing skills and how to rig fishing poles along with how to make a simple piece of tackle. The kids will learn about how the tackle/hook works for the fish they are targeting. The students will learn about the tools involved in fishing. While we are fishing, we will have discussions on conservation and how to handle fish properly.

Multi-media art class meets weekly, 16 week semester (for grades K-12).

Dancing Lights Yoga offers a variety of classes for all levels. The classes specific to Mat-Su Central School children are Children's and Teen Yoga. The Children's classes will begin with free style dancing allowing the children to move in whatever way feels comfortable to them and gets their wiggles out. There will then be a themed story time with books such as "I Like Myself", "Maybe", "What if?", etc. Stories that inspire thought and growth. Next, will be yoga where the little yogis bring breath work and movement together to bring strength and calming to the bodies and nervous systems. The class will end with a guided meditation to inspire creativity and learning. The Teen classes will consist of a theme mantra for all the class. Themes such as, "You are Enough", "You are Strong", Finding Your Inner Peace", etc. Teens will then learn the power of breath-work in calming the nervous system as well as the strength that comes when breath work and movement are combined through Yoga Asana. The class will end with guided meditation.

Irish dance for fitness and fun with performance and competition opportunities for ages 6 through adult. Dancers learn rhythm and technique in soft shoe dances (similar to ballet), hard shoe dances (similar to tap) and Ceili dances (similar to square dance), and may perform with the school as the main entertainment at the Celtic Stage at the Alaska Scottish Highland Games and on the Colony Stage at Alaska State Fair as well as at local retirement homes for Christmas and local establishments for St. Patrick’s Day.

The syllabus covers creative writing (short stories and poetry), nonfiction writing (simple nonfiction reports, police statements, and technical papers). Topics covered include: the elements of a fictional story, including genre, premise, plot, character, conflict, and voice; as well as the elements of a nonfiction work, including table of contents, paragraph structure and bibliography. Over the course of the class, students will write a fictional short story in 1000 words or less, a short poem, a police statement, as well as a nonfiction paragraph with citations.
