AXA Achievement Scholarships                       Opens Sept 1 – Dec 15

(or until 10,000 applications received)

The AXA Achievementsm Scholarship provides over $1.4 million in scholarships to young people throughout the nation representing all 50 states, Washington DC and Puerto Rico. Students have the opportunity to receive a $2,500, $10,000 or $25,000 scholarship. In addition, for every student who wins a scholarship, a grant in the amount of $1,000 will be made to the winner’s school. AXA is looking for students who qualify: 

  • Be United States citizens or legal residents living or claiming residency in one of the 50 united states, Washington, D.C. or Puerto Rico
  • Be a high school senior applying to college for the fall 2020 semester
  • Demonstrate ambition and self-drive as evidenced by outstanding achievement in school, community or work-related activities
    • Because reducing risk is woven into the fabric of our company, special consideration is given to achievements that empower society to mitigate risk through education and/or action in areas such as financial, environmental, health, safety and/or emergency preparedness

Horatio Alger Scholarships                                  Due October 25, 2019

The Horatio Alger Scholarship program provides financial assistance to students throughout the nation who have sigicant financial need and haver exhibited integrity and perseverance in overcoming personal adversity.  Students must graduate in the spring/summer, and also be United States citizens.  Find more information and apply on their website.  

Heisman High School Scholarship                      Due October 29, 2019

This year, the Heisman High School Scholarship is awarding $64,000 in scholarships to the nation’s most accomplished and community-minded scholar-athletes. Elks Most Valuable Student Scholarship            Due November 5, 2019

 

The 2020 Most Valuable Student scholarship contest is open to any high school senior who is a US Citizen. Applicants will be judged on scholarship, leadership, and financial need.  Apply today.

 

Eligibility:

  • Current high school seniors, or the equivalent, who are citizens of the United States are eligible to apply.
  • Applicants need not be related to a member of the Elks.
  • High school graduates are not eligible to apply.
  • Applicants must be citizens of the United States on the date their applications are signed; permanent legal resident status does not qualify.

Prudential Spirit of Community Awards             Due November 5, 2019

The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program is the United States’ largest youth recognition program based exclusively on volunteer community service. 

To be eligible, you must:

  • be in grades 5-12 as of November 5
  • be a legal resident of any U.S. state or Washington, D.C.
  • have engaged in a volunteer activity that occurred during the 12 months prior to the date of the application
  • submit a completed application to a school or the head of an official designated local organization by November 5.

PB & J Scholarship                                             Due December 16, 2019

This scholarship is open to all college-bound seniors attending an accredited 2-year or 4-year college in Fall 2020. 

SAR Knight Essay Contest (grades 9-12)         Due  January 1, 2020

Students (grades 9-12) are eligible to submit an original essay with topics based on original research and deal with an event, person, philosophy or ideal associated with the American Revolution, Declaration of Independence, or the framing of the United States Constitution.

In Alaska, students will first compete at the State level and myself and other SAR Compatriots will select the winner.  That essay will then be entered into the National competition where the winning essay will earn $5000, a medal, and a trip to a recognition ceremony.  2nd and 3rd place also earn cash awards.  Click link for the Application

UAA Scholarships                Due between October 1, 2019 and February 15, 2020

The  2019/2020 University of Alaska scholarship application is now accepting applications from new* and continuing UAA students. Mat Su Schools Foundation – coming in 2020

Four scholarships have been added to the Mat-Su Schools Foundation web page.  The link to the MSSF website is http://matsuschoolsfoundation.com/.  The Scholarships include:  First Student Scholarships (5), MSBSD School Board Scholarships (2), Mike Simmons Memorial Scholarship,  Dr. George W. Brown Scholarship.

Wasilla Lions Club Essay Scholarship – coming in 2020

This scholarship work $1000 will be awarded to one student of the five schools in our area, who has been accepted by a college and has a GPA of “B” or above.  The essay will consist of 800 thru 2,500 words, double spaced and grammatically correct.  What three things would you do to improve our Country if you were somehow given the power.  A short biography should also be submitted along with the essay.  Mail the essay to:  Wasilla Lions (Attn: Essay Awards Committee)  601 Sarah’s Way  Wasilla, AK  99654

Society of Petroleum Engineers – coming in 2020

The Alaska Section of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) will be offering scholarships to eligible students for the 2019-2020 school year.In addition to the application, each student must also submit an official transcript. The transcript must be sealed, officially certified by the school, and include Fall 2018 final grades. Eligible students are graduating Alaska High School Seniors who will be enrolled at an accredited university as a full-time college student for the Fall 2019 semester in a curriculum leading to an undergraduate degree in engineering, including petroleum, chemical, mechanical, electrical, environmental or civil, or an earth sciences field, and intend to seek future employment in the petroleum industry.  More information is found in the Application.

Kristan Cole Follow Your Dreams Scholarship – coming in 2020

The Kristan Cole Network awards approximately $2,500 in scholarships annually to graduating seniors from Mat-Su Valley high schools. Recipients of the Kristan Cole Follow Your Dreams Scholarship have shown passion, heart, and a vision to follow their own dreams for the future.  See link for application instructions.
