George and Stella Knight Scholarship – Deadline February 15, 2019

Students (grades 9-12) are eligible to submit an original essay with topics based on original research and deal with an event, person, philosophy or ideal associated with the American Revolution, Declaration of Independence, or the framing of the United States Constitution.More info can be found at this link.

Nick Begich Scholarship Intern Fund – Deadline February 20, 2019
Nick Begich Scholarship Intern Fund, announced today the Fund’s call for applications for scholarships for the 2019/2020 academic year. Alaskans pursuing degrees and/or careers in education, government, and public service are invited to apply. The Fund is now accepting applications for scholarships. The application form and required submissions may be found online at http://www.nickbegichfund.org. The Fund will award approximately 10 scholarships in the coming year. Awards will range from a $2,500 – $3,000 Eugene A. Kennedy Scholarship granted to the highest-scoring applicant (this scholarship may be renewed for up to four years) to one-year scholarships of at least $1,000.00.
Joan Katkus Memorial Scholarship – Deadline February 25, 2019

One scholarship of $2,000 is available to a veteran’s child High school age or above of the State of Alaska to pursue further education.  See link for application and further information.

Vicki Webb Nelson Memorial Scholarship – Deadline February 25, 2019

One scholarship of $1,000 is available to a high school senior graduate of a State of Alaska Certified High School Program or with the equivalent of college entrance requirement. ELIGIBILITY Applicant shall be a resident of the State of Alaska and be enrolled as a senior in, or graduate from, a State of Alaska Certified High School Program (including Home School). The recipient may accept another scholarship of equal or greater value in their own local area. BASIS OF AWARD Citizenship shall be a primary requisite. In addition, leadership and financial need shall be considered. A good, average, all-around student, with a desire to further his/her education.  See link for application.

2019 National Youth Science Camp Competition – Deadline February 28, 2019

The 2019 National Youth Science Camp (NYSC) competition is now open to Alaskan high school students who will graduate by June 30, 2019.  NYSC is a great opportunity for all seniors, but especially those with a dedicated interest in scientific and engineering research. MTA Scholarships – March 11, 2019 and other deadlines vary

Foundation for Rural Service (MTA related scholarship) – Deadline March 1, 2019

In 2019, FRS will award scholarships per geographic region of the NTCA membership and one sponsored by an NTCA associate member. The awards will be distributed proportionate to the number of applications received per region. FRS will fund $2,000 of each scholarship, with the sponsoring organization of each winning student providing a $500 match. See link for more information and application.

Mat Su Health Foundation – Deadline March 1, 2019
MSHF Vocational Scholarships help pay for vocational training and certificate programs in health and wellness or nonprofit management career fields. Applications are accepted year-round on the Mat-Su Health Foundation website, and no FAFSA is required for Vocational Scholarships.
MSHF Academic Scholarships help defray the cost of attendance in accredited degree programs that emphasize health, wellness, or nonprofit management. The next application period for academic scholarships is January 1 – March 1, 2019. Academic scholarships require completion of the Free Application For Student Aid (FAFSA). We encourage potential Academic Scholarship applicants to submit the FAFSA now, and then come to the  MSHF website after January 1 to complete the scholarship application.
Senator Murkowski Internship Program – Deadline March 15, 2019

Senator Murkowski’s high school intern program is an opportunity for newly-graduated Alaskan high school students to spend four weeks in our Washington, D.C. office to learn more about the workings of the United States Senate and the federal legislation that affects Alaska. We select a total of twenty students from all areas of Alaska to participate in two, four-week sessions.  See link for more information and application.

MEA Scholarship – Deadline March 15, 2019

The 2019 MEA Scholarship Application packet is attached. 3 awards will be given: $7500, $3000, and $2000.

Rules of Eligibility–Applicants must be an active member or dependent of an active member of MEA who resides in MEA’s service territory.–Applicants may be graduating seniors from an AK secondary school or be planning to attend a college or vocational school.–Awards are for students who will attend an accredited college or vocational school in the fall of 2019 and be enrolled in a course of study that leads to a degree or certificate.–Applications and supportive documentation must be postmarked no later than March 15, 2019.

Alaska School Counselor Association Scholarship 2019 – Deadline March 18, 2019

The Alaska School Counselor Association is pleased to present the 2018-2019 Alaska School Counselor Association Scholarship Program. Full tuition and partial tuition waivers are being offered at the Alaska Schools listed below for the post-secondary school year 2019-2020:

Alaska Career College- Five individual $100 tuition waivers for Allied Health Programs (Medical Assisting, Phlebotomy Technician, Medical Coding and Billing, and Massage Therapy) & five $1000 tuition waivers for Business Administration, Computer, Accounting and Human Resources Diploma and Degree Programs.

AVTEC – Alaska’s Institute of Technology- Five tuition waivers for any program AVTEC offers. (Students will be responsible for Room & Board, books, supplies and any other fees.)

University of Alaska Southeast- Two $1000 tuition waivers. $500 per semester. Non-renewable.

University of Alaska Fairbanks- One $5000 tuition waiver. $2500 per semester. 15 credits required each semester (full-time), maintain 3.0 GPA, non-renewable.

To apply:  Write a goal statement of the student’s PERSONAL and EDUCATIONAL goals (500 words or less).  Also have one letter of recommendation from someone NOT employed by the school district Examples: Employment Supervisor, Clergy, Mentor, Family Friend, Legislator(letter must state recommender’s name and relation to student) and a list of extracurricular activities AND community / volunteer service.  Goal statement, letter of recommendation and list of extracurricular/volunteer services should be brought to Mat Su Central, Attn: Counseling Department by 2pm Monday, March 18, 2019. 

Warren N. Cuddy Memorial Scholarship – Deadline March 21, 2019

Two scholarships will be given this year, $2,500 is designated for a student planning to enter an agriculture related course of study, and $1,500 for a non-restricted college scholarship (trade schools excluded).  See linked application for more information.

June Nelson Memorial Scholarship – Deadline March 25, 2019

The Association of Alaska School Boards is proud to announce its 28th Annual Scholarship Award Competition. The June Nelson Memorial Scholarship is named in honor of the late June Nelson, longtime school board member from Kotzebue. June contributed much to the cause of education, and will be remembered for her outstanding service on behalf of Alaska’s children.  More information and application instructions are found here.

AGC Scholarship – Deadline March 31, 2019

The Associated General Contractors of Alaska, Inc. (AGC) scholarship program is designed to encourage students to pursue a career in the construction industry or a related field such as accounting, insurance & bonding, and human resources. Scholarship awards will be limited to individuals who plan to live and work in Alaska. Scholarship applications must be submitted no later than 11:59pm March 31st, 2019. AGC will award up to $20,000 in scholarships based on a scoring guide developed by the Scholarship Program Committee.  Application and instructions found on AGC Website.

Steven R. Nelson Native Educator Scholarship Program Seeking Applicants – Deadline March 31, 2019

This scholarship program strives to increase Native representation in the field of education by providing financial support, mentoring, and internships for Native students in the Northwest who are pursuing a master’s degree in education policy, leadership, technical assistance, research, or a closely related field. Awardees will receive a maximum of $5,000 each year. March 31 application deadline. See website for more information and application.

Beta Sigma Phi Scholarship – Deadline April 1, 2019

One $2,000 scholarship and one $1000 scholarship will be awarded to a 2019 graduating high school student in the Mat-Su Valley.  Applicants may be pursuing a degree or certificate program in college, vocational or a business school.  See application for more information.

Alaska State Fair Scholarship – Deadline April 2, 2019

The Alaska State Fair invites Alaska high school students to apply for a 2019 Fair scholarship. The Fair will award $6,000 in scholarships to five students this year. All Alaska high school students planning to attend college or vocational school are encouraged to apply.  See Alaska State Fair website for application directions.

Wasilla Lions Club Essay Scholarship – Deadline April 25, 2019

This scholarship work $1000 will be awarded to one student of the five schools in our area, who has been accepted by a college and has a GPA of “B” or above.  The essay will consist of 800 thru 2,500 words, double spaced and grammatically correct.  What three things would you do to improve our Country if you were somehow given the power.  A short biography should also be submitted along with the essay.  Mail the essay to:  Wasilla Lions (Attn: Essay Awards Committee)  601 Sarah’s Way  Wasilla, AK  99654

Society of Petroleum Engineers – Deadline April 30, 2019

The Alaska Section of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) will be offering scholarships to eligible students for the 2019-2020 school year.In addition to the application, each student must also submit an official transcript. The transcript must be sealed, officially certified by the school, and include Fall 2018 final grades. Eligible students are graduating Alaska High School Seniors who will be enrolled at an accredited university as a full-time college student for the Fall 2019 semester in a curriculum leading to an undergraduate degree in engineering, including petroleum, chemical, mechanical, electrical, environmental or civil, or an earth sciences field, and intend to seek future employment in the petroleum industry.  More information is found in the Application.

Kristan Cole Follow Your Dreams Scholarship – Deadline April 30, 2019

The Kristan Cole Network awards approximately $2,500 in scholarships annually to graduating seniors from Mat-Su Valley high schools.
