The Founding Fathers & the American Revolutionary War

Workshop description: The American Revolution is the seminal event in the founding of the United States. The loss of the American colonies by one of the most powerful empires in the world is still staggering, especially when considering the fact that the colonists did not have a formal army, no navy, and were thirteen disunited colonies. The impact of this war was felt not only in America and Great Britain, but also, because of the ideas and ideals that underpinned the war, important for the world.

In this course many of the key events will be explored such as the causes of the war, the events that led up to the war, the Battle of Lexington and Concord, Valley Forge, the Sons of Liberty, the Declaration of Independence, and stories of the Founders. An exploration of primary source documents will be included in the class, and discussions of questions about the revolution by renowned historians will also be included.
