Kenai Challenger Space Center
Join Mat Su Central School on a Lunar Quest at the Challenger Learning Center of Alaska in Kenai.
The Center offers students the next best thing to actual space flight with a Mission Control room designed after NASA Johnson Space Center.
The simulated environment is created with computer technology, real science data & hands-on activities. Students will take turns working in the Space Station and Mission Control, immersing themselves in the space like surroundings.
During Lunar Quest, students take on the role of scientists, engineers and doctors to explore the moon and locate precious materials. Students will work both as mission controllers and astronauts focusing on four major topics:
- Orbital mechanics and what it takes to get to the moon.
- Health and safety in space
- Conditions for life
- How remote sensing enables us to observe and explore the moon in ways that would otherwise be impossible.
