Denali Science School info: Are you a fifth or sixth grader interested in participating in a world class science immersion class in the most spectacular national park in the US? Join MSCS for a three-day program exploring Denali’s natural wonders through hands-on activities, hikes, and journeys into the park. During the 3 day 2 night stay at the Murie Science and Learning Center in Denali National Park and Preserve, students conduct investigations, participate in discussions and collaborative activities, play games, and hike as they address the overall goals of Denali Science School and explore the three main learning objectives. Denali Science School is instructed by skilled National Park Service and Alaska Geographic educators. 3 Mat-Su Central School staff members will lead instruction in the evenings during the program.
Registration: We only have 20 spots available. You must be in 5th or 6th grade… or have written approval from your advisor to attend. Scroll down the page for the sign-up link.
Prep Classes: During Denali Science School the students will create their own national park. In order for them to have a sense of components they may want to include in their parks and see examples of how parks communicate to visitors, students will complete investigative activities in prep classes here at MSCS. These prep classes are deigned to front-load information thereby deepening the learning experience in the park. Prep classes will meet at Mat-Su Central School, Wasilla campus, on the following days: Wednesdays, September 4th, 11th and 18th from 2:15- 4:00 PM. Optional Post field trip class will be held at MSCS on Friday October 4th from 12:00 – 2:00 pm (a pizza lunch will be provided).
Cost: $226 Student cost includes lodging, meals and transportation. The cost for this trip will be automatically deducted from the students allotment.
