Field Trip Description:
Few places in the world have as rich a living laboratory as the Peterson Bay Field Station on the south shore of Kachemak Bay. The rich intertidal areas of Peterson & China Poot Bays are known for the diversity of life exposed by extreme tides and are a short distance from the front door. Trails wind through the coastal forest at the back door.
The Peterson Bay Field Station has three rooms downstairs- a central room, a mud room and a kitchen. The central room is used for classroom discussions and quiet time. All meals are served and eaten in this room. A wrap around deck has two shallow observation touch tanks with flowing salt water stocked with a variety of marine life to explore. Our bunks will be in cozy, heated yurts surrounding the Field Station. Our group will have 2 full time naturalist guides leading hands on science lessons in this immersive field trip. This trip will be chaperoned by 3 MSCS staff / instructors. Staff chaperones include Gena Chastain, Nathan Chud and school nurse, Joani Welch.
Preparatory Class schedule: April 29th, May 6th, 13th & 20th 3:00 – 4:00 PM
